The Book-Worthy
Idea Test

Which part of your expertise could become a book?

You answer questions, share advice and help people move forward.
Your book could begin with one of those conversations.

This short workbook helps you choose an idea, picture its reader and name the useful result your book could offer.

5 pages · A 10-minute first step · By Ann Ljungberg

Give your idea ten minutes.

Work through five practical questions, then use a simple check to see which parts of your idea are clear and which need another look.

Find your starting point

Look at the questions people already bring to you. Choose one you would enjoy answering in depth.

Picture your reader

Name who would benefit from your experience and what makes this topic useful to them now.

Test the substance

Identify the lessons and examples you can share, and check whether your idea has room to grow.

Put it into words

Finish with one sentence describing who your book will help, what it will help them do and how.

You will leave with a working book idea and a clear next question to answer.

A note from Ann

When you know a subject well, choosing what belongs in a book can be the tricky part. I created this workbook to help you start with a useful question and the person who needs your answer.

I have worked as a writing coach and manuscript developer since 2004. My work is about helping writers turn their ideas into books readers can connect with.
